BERLIN -- British electronic band Depeche Mode will perform in Belgrade on May 20 2009, it has been confirmed.

The band announced their Belgrade date in a news conference in Berlin on Tuesday.

The concert will be held at the Ušće venue as one of the gigs of the Touborg Green Fest – an event produced by Live Nation and State of EXIT.

Over the years, various polls conducted among pop fans in Serbia showed that Depeche Mode is the band they wish to see perform here the most.

The Belgrade gig will be a part of their Tour Of The Universe 2009, that will include performances in 28 European cities, starting in Israel, and finishing in Portugal.

The band is in Berlin working on a new studio album that is set to hit the stores in April next year.

Depeche Mode – who took their name from a French fashion magazine – emerged in England in 1980, as the New Wave was in full swing, with the original line-up including Vince Clark, Andrew Fletcher, Martin Gore and David Gahan.

So far they have released 11 official studio albums, while 2006 estimates said the band's worldwide sales had reached 72 million copies.
