In this year Vorosmarty square in the heart of Budapest, dresses up again in its holiday finery for the 13th time. One of the most popular Christmas fairs in Europe opens up its gates to the audience on the 18th of November and will entertain its visitors until the end of December.
The Christmas wonderland is waiting for people in all ages with more than hundred of cottage-style wooden pavilions. Visitors can buy exclusive Christmas gifts for their loved ones, directly from the artists. All products are hand-made and selected by a professional jury to guarantee their quality. Weather the interested ones choose a bigger meal such as grilled sausage and meat, stuffed cabbage or kenyerlangos (flat bread baked in a cob oven), or just a snack: kurtos kalacs (hollow, cylinder-shaped pastry with different coatings: sugar, walnut), Christmas cookies or roasted chestnuts, the fresh and delicious traditional food is guaranteed.
The Fair provides a great family adventure for children, there are several possible activities: puppet shows, handicraft workshops, Christmas tree decorating competition, playhouses, Santa’s personal visit and many other exciting opportunities. As in previous years the small Bethlehem will come alive on the square with a crib and live animals.
Visitors can also attend numerous cultural programs which consist of folklore groups, brass and reed bands, string orchestras and choirs. The peak of the day is when the Advent Calendar uncovers a new hidden work of art in the windows of Gerbeaud House at 5 pm in the context of chimes, fanfares and wonderful lights.
The scent of traditional honey cookies, mulled wine, fir wood and cinnamon creates the unique atmosphere of the Fair and gives the visitors the real Christmas feeling.
