Are there True advantages in planning your holiday ahead, or is this just a Myth?

Are there True advantages in planning your holiday ahead, or is this just a Myth?

Should you book early or wait till the last minute in the hope of grabbing a bargain for your holiday deal? Many of us could learn from those who get a deposit down on their next holiday way ahead of the departure date. What are the advantages of booking early?

Early bookers can take advantage of a huge range of offers.
For holidays in 2011 you could get discounts of up to 15% off the brochure prices, free child places, single savers, no regional flight supplements and added value extras.
Secondly you can secure your holiday for a deposit. Most holiday companies allow you to book your holiday for a nominal deposit when you book at least 12 weeks ahead of your departure date.
You are able get the best choice. The further out you book the more choice there is in terms of destinations, flights, hotels and room types. So you have the pick of everything on sale and can ensure that you get the holiday that is right for you.
The best part; you get the lowest prices.
This is contentious; however for some types of trip you will generally get the lowest prices when you book early. Flights are generally cheaper the earlier you book. Only charter flights are ever cheaper when you book late.
Holidays that have a lot of demand such as all inclusive holidays, or those to the big fashionable destinations for the year, such sell out and do not need to be discounted. In fact at the last minute they can command prices that are higher than the brochure.

Our conclusion is that the earlier you book the better value you will be getting for your money. Last years trend we could clearly see that last minute deals were popular however this year and next year, planning ahead is the way to go!

And what ever you choose, always book your holiday at www.medestino.com

Anish Kapoor Monumenta

Volunturism

Voluntourism

How is voluntourism going to continue in 2011?
Voluntourism in its simplest sense is volunteering while traveling. Volunteers in such programs frequently participate in environmental or social welfare projects.
It is a way to learn about the people and place you are visiting on a deeper level. Participating in voluntourism is a way to establish long-lasting connections, discover more about cultures around the world, and about yourself. It is most definitely a way to give back to a community you are visiting, to lend a helping hand to someone in need, to work towards a cause you believe in, or simply to find a way to make a positive impact through your travels.

''One of the most important challenges is ensuring long-term benefits and positive impact of voluntourism projects,'' says Ayako Ezaki, director of communication for TIES.

While many people are genuinely thrilled about this form of volunteering there are others that think differently. The truth of the matter is if you don’t carefully choose an experienced organization you may do more harm then good. Business methods used by tour operators, such as exclusivity deals, and catering to the needs of the volunteer rather than the volunteer project, exploit the communities the projects are intended to help.

Claims by volunteer tourism organizations that these activities contribute to improving people's lives and contributing to development goals are yet to be evaluated in the vast majority of cases. It is possible that volunteer travel might excacerbate existing problems in the host community. Many people have different opinions about voluntourism. We would like to hear your opinion about this topic to get a deeper view of the negative and positive side.

Bizarre Beaches of the World

Bizarre Beaches of the World

While the words beach vacation usually call to mind a tropical white-sand beach studded with palm trees and lapped by turquoise waters, the truth is that the world's beaches come in all shapes and sizes—some stranger than others. There are black, green, red, and even purple stretches of sand. And did you know that there are sands in Zanzibar that do a daily disappearing act, and a dragon supposedly visits a beach in Hong Kong? Humans also add their own bizarre twists to the beaches of the world and have even tried to trump Mother Nature. Just look at the world's largest swimming pool (pictured), which runs alongside a gorgeous Pacific Ocean beach in Chile. Oh, what will they think up next?

Repulse Bay, Hong Kong, China

Repulse Bay Beach, an artificial strip of sand on the south side of Hong Kong Island, is one of that city's most popular beaches, and you'll know it by the throngs who pack the place on sunny summer days. Shark nets and floating platforms have been added for swimmers, and of course the needs of a nearby dragon also had to be considered during the construction of a 37-story residential building on the hillside behind the beach. Legend has it a dragon lives at the top of the mountain, and a feng shui master warned that the building would block the dragon's access to the shore. Hence, a large hole was cut out of the tower's center to mollify the dragon and avoid a whole lot of bad luck.

Crosby Beach, Crosby, England

About seven miles north of Liverpool is a little coastal village called Crosby. It would be unremarkable if it weren't for the 100 anatomically correct cast-iron human figures that stand on its beach, facing out to sea. This surreal scene, called Another Place, is the work of English sculptor Antony Gormley, who used a cast of his own naked body for the installation. The statues, which were previously exhibited in Norway, Germany, and Belgium, were supposed to be shipped off to New York City in 2006, but locals fought to keep them here. (A similar project is on view in New York City through August 15, 2010.) Some statues are submerged when the rather large tides come in, and over the years, they've attracted barnacles and sunk into the sand. Still, it would be easy to mistake these lifelike statues for nudists watching the horizon—if it weren't for the freezing British location.

San Alfonso Del Mar, Algarrobo, Chile

Seeing as San Alfonso del Mar fronts a huge beach and the Pacific Ocean, it seems an odd spot for the world's largest swimming pool. But the pool's remarkable spaciousness complements the ocean beyond rather effortlessly, and jumping in the pool's 79 degree water is a much more tempting prospect than venturing into the 63 degree seawater nearby, with its dangerous waves and currents. The resort complex on Chile's central coast resembles a modern Mayan city, with pyramidlike apartment buildings towering above the colossal saltwater pool. Well, since it's over half a mile long and holds about 66 million gallons of water, it's more like a lake. Lining the pool are white-sand beaches, palm trees, and docks for the sailboats that ply the gin-clear water.

Whether you are a parent in a wheelchair or have a child with Down syndrome, if you are blind or disabled in any way, this special park was built with you in mind.

Special Needs Activities
There are plenty of special-needs activities at Morgan’s Wonderland to keep everyone in your party busy. Drop a line in the eight-acre catch-and-release pond that’s stocked with a variety of fish, or go for a ride on the ultra-accessible carousel. Choose one of three play areas with several types of swings, including wheelchair swings, then cool off by the water cannons and remote-controlled boats.

Try the off-road adventure ride, relax in the music garden, or check out the sensory village. Stretch your arms or legs on the walk and roll path around the lake, and finish up in the theme park’s garden sanctuary. After you’ve rested up, you can ride a train that has wheelchair-accessible cars, or visit the sand circle or memorial wall.

Disabled Veterans Participate
The fully accessible park will offer disabled veterans (the largest military medical facility in the world is just four miles away) a place where they can go with their families and join in the fun, instead of sitting on the sidelines. Paralyzed Veterans of America volunteers will help staff the park, adding to the comfort level of disabled guests.

Disability Convenience and Security
The 18 restrooms at Morgan’s Wonderland are specially designed for your convenience, with oversized floor plans and ADA accessible stalls. They’re also both heated and air conditioned for year-round comfort. Family restrooms give you room for sitting and changing.
Security hasn’t been forgotten, either, with fencing around the park’s perimeter and the lake. Innovative radio frequency identification wristbands track every visitor, while PA and emergency notification systems grant extra peace of mind. Two first aid stations can handle whatever medical emergencies arise.

Morgan’s Wonderland: Reservations Required
Morgan’s Wonderland receives raves from visitors, but it does require that you make reservations before you go so the park can take the best possible care of every guest. Opening time is 10 a.m. year-round. What are you waiting for?!

Wine Tourism

Wine tourism

As you know, wine tourism refers to tourism whose purpose is or includes the tasting, consumption or purchase of wine, often at or near the source. Wine tourism means organizing travel around the appreciation of, tasting of and purchase of wine. It combines discovering new landscapes and visiting to wineries, vineyards and restaurants know to offer unique vintages, as well as organized wine tours, wine festivals or other special events.  So, it gives you the opportunity to experience new sensations through wine for the pleasure of your senses: sight, taste and smell.
Some of the famous wines producing regions of the world have been producing wine for centuries or even millennia, and the production and the consumption of wine is deeply ingrained in the local culture. Getting out and visiting wine producers provides contact with local farmers and artisans who care deeply about the area. Wine growers are farmers, and their perspective on the local area and life in general, tends to be different from other locals typically encountered while travelling.
You do not need to be a wine expert to enjoy wine-tasting or a guided tour to a winery and its vineyards. There is plenty variety on offer, to suit different tastes and budgets the best wine regions. In Argentina, for example, the Mendoza Province is becoming one of the tourist destinations in the country as Argentine wine strides to gain international recognition. We recommend Wine Tourism in Greece
Located in the middle of mainland Greece, the vineyards of Central Greece, with extensive holdings in the grape-growing areas of Thessaly and Continental Greece, account for 32% of the Greek vineyards and 29% of winemaking facilities, many of which include infrastructure suitable for hosting visitors. This fact, in combination with the broad range of native and foreign grape varieties in cultivation and the numerous wines of all types that are produced, render wine tourism in Central Greece particularly interesting.
Wine tourism in Central Greece is highly recommended due to the long history of the area, where vineyards and wine were part of life as far back as prehistoric times. The important archaeological and architectural monuments that testify to its history and the notable museums that highlight it offer many opportunities for cultural tourism. The numerous and select food products of the area, with an emphasis on meat and dairy products, in combination with the great variety of local flavors and recipes, will lend the essential gastronomic dimension to any visit.

Roland Garros

Roland Garros

“No quiero responder a asuntos familiares, privados o fisiológicos”. [4]
